The Social Media Bubble Isn’t The Only Bubble

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Monkey see monkey do. One website becomes successful and quickly a hundred others pop up just like it.

What is success on the Internet? Facebook has over 500 million users globally. But there’s nearly 2 billion Internet users worldwide. A website that draws over 1,000,000 visitors has people salivating.

Would it seem reasonable that the best website in a swamp of hundreds could rise to the top and suck the viewers from all the other websites? May the best man (or woman or machine) win.

I personally use both services. I don’t see them as competing for my attention but rather creating a synergy in my life. I enjoy both.

Competition is the old school of thinking. Collaboration is the new school. The Internet operates on a new set of principles. Whoever doesn’t understand that isn’t on board.
